Problem 2. Finding the Area of the Largest Circle in a Square and Material Wasted

SOLID MENSURATION PROBLEMS

     2.   Find the area of the largest circle which can be cut from a square of edge 4 in.
What is the area of the material wasted

First we will find the area of the square.

The center of the square is also the center of the circle and if the edge of the square is 4 in. This means that the radius of the circle is 2 in. We can now find the area of the largest circle.

To find the material wasted we will subtract the Area of the square with the area of the circle.
